Yggdrasil ~ Giclée Print

$35.00

'Yggdrasil' was started as a study of different surfaces and textures intended to resemble a paper collage. Only after the 150 hours of working on it, did new meaning form.

I had remembered Yggdrasil - a tree from norse mythology said to stand at the center of the universe. Prior to this revelation, the tree stump - having no other meaning than serving as a table for our maidens wine - now has brought context into the piece:

Our figure, taking form as one of the three Norns in the Poetic Edda's prose, is described as being not only a goddess, yet a giantess. Her arrival, along with her two sisters - marked the end of the blissful days of the gods, and the beginning of their protection over the inhabitants of Earth.
Much more can be said about our goddess, and it even has been debated throughout time whether or not the sisters intentions are considered to be good or evil - as they were still yet beings of ultimate power working in the dark...

More information on our maiden(s) can be found within the modern islandic poem "Völuspá".
